Practical Classroom Solutions
Books That Inspire Kids to Become Readers
Literacy coaching and consulting, engaging fiction and nonfiction, author visits, writing workshops & more!
I am collaborating once again with Capital Area IU to strengthen literacy programs in non-public schools. Equally exciting, I'm working with Lincoln IU, too!
It's all part of IU15 and IU12's equitable participation programs. On behalf of the IUs, this fall I will provide Writers' Workshop and Kid Writing trainings followed by in-classroom coaching, as well as model lessons on reading and writing strategies. My cooperating schools are Harrisburg Catholic and St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Harrisburg and St. Patrick' School in York.
It's conference time! Having just finished an author luncheon and a spelling presentation at KSRA’s fabulous 50th anniversary conference, I’m soon off to WVRA’s equally wonderful 2017 reading conference at The Greenbrier, where I'll give a keynote - The Roads to Reading and Writing- as well as a spelling presentation. Other upcoming conference appearances include four sessions at SDE’s 2nd and 3rd grade Conference in San Marco, Texas (January), and a spelling presentation at the Title I National Conference in Philadelphia (February).
New books are here! From Stenhouse Publishing comes Super Spellers, trumpeting the idea that spelling is for reading. The book gives ideas for powerful word lists, informative assessments, strategies that teach kids how to spell (not what to spell), and activities that help children become better readers, writers, and spellers. When Walt Disney Rode a Pig and When Neil Armstrong Built a Wind Tunnel are additions to the popular and award-nominated Leaders Doing Headstands series, a set of biographies from Picture Window Books that chronicle the early lives of great American leaders.
