Speaking and Presenting
From California and New Mexico to Massachusetts and New York, thousands of teachers have enjoyed my presentations, workshops, and speaking engagements. In the last three years I have participated in keynotes, presentations, and workshops on spelling instruction and assessment, core-reading programs, primary writing programs, instructional practice, content area literacy, and using music and movement in the classroom. Conferences and institutes have included the ILA National Conferences in New Orleans, St. Louis, Austin, and Boston, the National Science Teachers Association National Conference in Nashville, the San Diego State University Reading Conference, the Massachusetts Reading Association Conference, the New Mexico State University STEM Institute, the Ohio K-3 Literacy Conference, the SDE National Conference in Las Vegas, the West Virginia State Reading Assoc. Conference, and others.
When I take off my tie, I'm ready to meet with, sing with, and read with children, which I've been happily doing since 1991. I enjoy discussing books with children, singing West African songs with them, and entertaining them with a percussion solo performed on a drum set made from a garbage can and metal chair. My appearances have included Mr. Sounds concerts in Cherry River, West Virginia and United Elementary School in Pennsylvania, Title I Parent-Child events in South West, Bermudian Springs, and Windber school districts, a 3-day stay at the 7th Annual Learning Lamp Children's Book Festival (with authors Dave Roman, Zachariah Ohora, and Greg Pizzoli), and meet-the-author days in Blairsville-Saltsburg School District, Mars School District, South Butler School District, and others. If you are interested in having me speak or present at an educational conference, or perform or present at a literacy event, please contact me to discuss availability. |
